The Keysight N8700 series is a family of affordable, single-output programmable system DC power supplies built into a compact 2 U package. The series comprises 21 models rated at either 3300 W or 5000 W, delivering stable output power with built-in voltage and current measurement. Across the family, output ranges span 8 V to 600 V and 5.5 A to 400 A, addressing a wide variety of simple DC power applications from a single product line.

The N8700 series is positioned for R&D, design validation, and manufacturing engineers working in the aerospace/defense, automotive, component, and communications industries. Its system-ready feature set is intended to simplify and accelerate test-system development, while front-panel rotary knobs and buttons also make it straightforward to operate on the bench. Coarse or fine adjustments of output voltage, current, and protection settings can be made directly from the front panel, with LED indicators showing supply status and operating modes.

ValueTronics stocks and holds its own inventory in a 20,000 sq ft secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois. This lets us match the right N8700 configuration to your voltage, current, and AC input requirements and ship it with the verification level appropriate to its condition.

Brand Heritage

Keysight Technologies traces its roots to Hewlett-Packard, whose test and measurement business was spun off as Agilent Technologies in 1999 and then established as a standalone company, Keysight Technologies, in 2014.

Compare Other Models in This Series

The Keysight N8700 series is a family of 21 single-output programmable system DC power supplies offered in two power classes — 3300 W (3.3 kW) and 5000 W (5 kW) — all housed in the same compact 2 U package. The series is described as a family of affordable basic system DC supplies for simple DC power applications, combining stable output, built-in measurement, and standard system interfaces.

Within the family, models differ primarily by their voltage and current ratings rather than their feature set: the architecture, protection scheme, interfaces, and front-panel operation are common across the line, while each model targets a specific point in the 8 V to 600 V and 5.5 A to 400 A coverage range.

Each model in the N8700 series is its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing. Select the specific new model whose voltage, current, and AC input option match your application before ordering, since these characteristics are fixed per model.

The clearest division in the family is between the 3.3 kW models (N8731A through N8742A) and the 5 kW models (N8754A through N8762A). The 3.3 kW group spans 8 V/400 A up to 600 V/5.5 A, while the 5 kW group spans 20 V/250 A up to 600 V/8.5 A, with each model trading higher rated voltage for lower rated current at roughly constant output power. The 230 V single-phase AC input option is available only on the 3.3 kW models.

Use the comparison table to match a model to your required output: each row lists the rated voltage, rated current, and maximum power for that model. Supplemental characteristics such as over-voltage protection range, ripple and noise, and programming resolution also scale with the model's ratings, so confirm the exact figures for the model and power class you intend to order.

Model Output Voltage Output Current Output Power
N8757A 60 V 85 A 5100 W
N8731A 8 V 400 A 3200 W
N8732A 10 V 330 A 3300 W
N8733A 15 V 220 A 3300 W

Additional differences in specifications beyond the few shown above are not listed here — see each model's full specifications below.

Important: The AC input voltage option (208 V or 400 V 3-phase, or 230 V single-phase on 3.3 kW models) is selected at time of order and cannot be changed without returning the unit to Keysight and placing a new order.
Important: The N5740A rack mount slide kit is required for rack mounting; standard system rack-mounting hardware will not work. It is ordered separately and provides all the necessary hardware to rack mount an N8700 in only 2 U of rack space.
Important: The 230 V single-phase AC input voltage option (Option 230, line cords Opt 831/832) is available on the 3.3 kW models only.
Important: For greater output power, up to four identical units (same model number) can be connected in parallel, or two identical units in series using external protection diodes (see Output Terminal Isolation).
