The RBL488 Series from TDI-Dynaload is a family of single-channel programmable electronic loads built to simulate DC loads for testing power supplies, fuel cells, large batteries, generators, servo systems, and similar DC sources. Marketed under the Dynaload name, the series is aimed at DC power-equipment testing, where high range current capability and a constant-power mode support battery testing and analysis.
An electronic load sinks current from a source rather than supplying it, allowing an engineer to subject a power supply, battery, or fuel cell to controlled, repeatable load conditions without a bank of physical resistors. The RBL488 Series is described as ideal for testing power supplies, fuel cells, large batteries, and other related DC power equipment: its high range current capability and constant-power feature facilitate battery testing and analysis, its ultra-fast slew rate provides power-supply transient testing, and its ultra-low-voltage, high-current capability suits fuel cell requirements.
ValueTronics supports the RBL488 Series from its own 20,000 square foot secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois, where we stock and hold our own test-and-measurement inventory. Every pre-owned unit is inspected and functionally verified in-house before it ships, while new units leave factory-sealed exactly as received from the manufacturer.
The RBL488 Series is a single line of single-channel programmable electronic loads offered in four power levels — 400 watt, 800 watt, 2000 watt, and 4000 watt — that share a common control set, five operating modes, and IEEE-488 programmability. Individual models are identified by their rated voltage, current, and power, with series ratings spanning up to 1000 volts, 1000 amps, and 4000 watts.
All four chassis share full-scale range switching, the internal pulse generator with variable slew adjust, and synchronized paralleling, so the main differences between models are physical size, power-handling capability, and the voltage and current ratings printed on each unit. Variable-speed fans are noted as standard on the 2000 watt and 4000 watt models.
Each model below is its own dedicated product page with pre-owned-matched pricing. Select the RBL488 model whose voltage, current, and power ratings match your DC source, then choose the pre-owned listing that fits your budget and lead-time requirements.
The models differ primarily in power capacity and chassis size. The 400 watt and 800 watt units share an 8-inch-wide enclosure, differing in depth at 13 and 22 inches, while the 2000 watt and 4000 watt units use a 19-inch-wide rack format, with the 4000 watt unit standing 8.75 inches tall versus 5.25 inches for the others. Variable-speed fans are standard on the 2000 watt and 4000 watt models.
Voltage, current, and power ratings vary by model and are identified in each unit's model number and on its rating label; the series spans 0 to 1000 volts, 0 to 1000 amps, and up to 4000 watts. The comparison table that follows lists the specific ratings and dimensions for each model so you can match a unit to your source.
| Model | Max Voltage | Max Current | Max Power |

Important: Short Circuit feature caution: intended for use only when testing current-limited power sources. Use of the Short Circuit feature with power sources that do not limit their current to values within the load's ratings could result in damage to the load, damage to the device under test, FIRE or EXPLOSION.
Important: WARNING: Ensure that all AC and DC power for the load, the test source, and any peripheral equipment is OFF prior to making any connections. Ensure the proper AC input range is selected before attaching the line cord, that the load is properly rated for the voltage and current generated by the DC source, and that all connections are correct and secure with all safety covers in place before applying power.
Important: CAUTION (Constant Power mode): If the source voltage decays to zero volts the load will attempt to draw infinite current.
Important: AC input voltage is user-selectable (100/120/200/240 V or 115/125/230/250 V depending on selector). Remove the power cord before changing the voltage selector tab and verify the correct AC input position before applying power.
Important: Power source-to-load (E+, E–) input cables are not supplied; size the conductors to the source current (approximately 500 circular mils per amp recommended) and connect only the source-to-load cables to the input studs.
Important: The IEEE-488 bus cable and the RS232 master/slave interconnect cable are not supplied and must be obtained separately; the master/slave cable must use a straight 1-to-1 pin configuration (a pin crossover will cause erroneous operation).
