The AMREL ePower line is a family of programmable DC power supplies engineered to cover the widest range of voltage, current, and power combinations available from a single manufacturer. The line spans three architectural tiers: low-noise linear supplies (PD Series) from 20W to 2,000W, switch mode rackmount supplies (SPS and SPD Series) from 1.2kW to 45kW, and high-power cabinet-mount switch mode supplies (HPS Series) from 20kW to 150kW+. Voltage coverage runs from 5V to 2500V and current coverage from 0.15A to 7500A+, with both air-cooled and water-cooled configurations available in the higher power tiers.
The datasheet lists ePower applications across Military/ATE Test Systems, Burn-in, Manufacturing, R&D/Lab Test, General ATE, Test and Measurement, Medical, Magnetic Coils, DC Motors, RF Amplifiers, Electro-Deposition, Laser Diode, Automotive Electronics, Power Supply/Battery Testing, and Semiconductor/Component test. AMREL specifically calls out deployment in the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) Program, avionics testing, maintenance depot stations, static and dynamic burn-in at full power, and electroplating or water treatment applications where the water-cooled HPS configuration isolates critical components from harsh environments.
American Reliance, Inc. (AMREL) is a privately held US-based test and measurement manufacturer headquartered at 3445 Fletcher Avenue, El Monte, California. The company designs and manufactures programmable DC power supplies (ePower line) and programmable electronic loads (eLoad line) and operates as a National Instruments Alliance Member. AMREL has not undergone a major corporate name change or acquisition affecting the ePower product line.
The ePower family is organized into four primary product groupings, each addressing a different power tier and application profile. The PD Series provides low-noise linear DC power from 20W to 2,000W and is positioned by AMREL for R&D and lab test where output ripple and load regulation matter more than power density. The SPS Series provides switch mode power in 1U through 4U rackmount packages from 1.2kW to 45kW, with three front-panel configurations (K, V, and 0) that share the same underlying electrical architecture but differ in user interface and embedded computer interfaces.
The SPD Series fills the dual-output requirement with two 360W-class channels in a single 1U chassis, and the HPS Series scales the switch mode architecture into floor-standing cabinet-mount configurations from 20kW to 150kW+. Across all four groupings, AMREL maintains a common SCPI command set and offers RS-232, GPIB (IEEE-488.2), RS-485, USB, and Ethernet interfaces in various combinations, allowing engineers to standardize on one programming environment while mixing power tiers within a single ATE system.
Each pre-owned ePower model on the comparison below links to its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing, current availability, and the specific options and interface configuration we have in inventory. Because AMREL offers each base model in multiple front-panel and interface variants (K, V, 0 panels; GPIB, Ethernet, USB combinations), confirm with your ValueTronics Test Architect that the listed configuration matches your application's interface and control requirements before ordering.
The primary differences across the ePower family are power level, cooling method, and front-panel configuration. The PD linear series prioritizes low ripple (typically 1-3 mVpp) and tight load regulation (1mV/1mA) at the expense of power density, capping at 2,000W. The SPS 1.2kW/1.5kW switch mode series achieves 1.5kW in a 1U chassis at the expense of higher ripple than the linears (typically 10-75 mV RMS depending on voltage tier). The SPS 3.3kW-45kW series and HPS 30kW-150kW series use current-fed converter topology and accept three-phase AC input at 208/240V, 380/415V, or 440/480V at 50-400Hz.
Within the 1.2kW SPS line specifically, the K-Panel version adds a keypad, encoder, and 2x20 VFD display with embedded Ethernet, USB, GPIB, and RS-232 as standard; the V-Panel version uses dual encoders and dual LED displays with GPIB and RS-232 standard and optional Ethernet/USB; the 0-Panel version uses ten-turn potentiometers with no keypad and offers RS-485 control. Cooling transitions from air-cooled in the SPS rackmount tier to optional water-cooled in the HPS 10kW-45kW range and HPS 100kW/150kW cabinet configurations. Reference the comparison table below for voltage, current, power, and interface specifications across the family.
