The Agilent U1240A Series handheld digital multimeters are designed to check more across wide measurement ranges, presenting readings on a 10,000 count display. The series comprises the U1241A and U1242A, both delivering true RMS AC measurement so that complex and non-sinusoidal waveforms are read accurately. A dual display reserves a secondary 4-digit readout for the temperature function, and automatic polarity indication is provided.
These handheld meters target field and bench maintenance work where wide-range electrical measurement is needed in a single portable instrument. Adjustable backlighting lets the operator complete jobs in subdued lighting while helping to prolong battery life. Built-in capabilities such as the switch counter, harmonic ratio, and dual and differential temperature readings (on the U1242A) are accessed with a single button press to simplify routine maintenance tasks.
ValueTronics stocks and holds its own inventory in a 20,000 square foot secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive, Elgin, Illinois. Every pre-owned unit is inspected and functionally verified in-house before it ships, while new units ship factory-sealed exactly as received from the manufacturer. This combination of held inventory and in-house verification lets engineers and technicians source the right instrument with confidence in its condition.
Agilent Technologies was spun off from Hewlett-Packard in 1999. In 2014, Agilent's electronic test and measurement business was transferred to a new company, Keysight Technologies, which now carries that product line forward.
The U1240A Series is offered in two models, the U1241A and the U1242A. Both share the same 10,000 count display, true RMS AC measurement, 0.09% basic DC voltage accuracy, and CAT III 1000 V safety rating, so the core measurement performance is common across the series.
The two models differ in their set of advanced and convenience functions rather than in their fundamental ranges or accuracy. The comparison table below lists each function alongside the model that provides it.
Each model below is its own dedicated product page with pre-owned-matched pricing. Select the model that fits your measurement needs, then choose the condition and configuration on that model's page.
The U1242A extends the shared feature set with manual data logging, harmonic ratio measurement, dual and differential T1–T2 temperature capability, and J-type thermocouple support, in addition to the K-type support common to both models.
The U1241A and U1242A share identical voltage, current, resistance, frequency, diode, capacitance, and K-type temperature specifications. The differences lie in the U1242A's additional functions: manual data logging, harmonic ratio, dual and differential temperature, and J-type thermocouple support.
Refer to the comparison table that follows for a function-by-function breakdown of which capabilities each model provides, so the selection can be matched to the specific maintenance and measurement tasks at hand.

Important: After measuring current above 10 A, allow the meter to cool for 60 seconds before applying a low-current measurement. Continuous 10 A measurement applies at a maximum operating temperature of 50 °C.
Important: Manual data logging, harmonic ratio, and dual/differential temperature (T1–T2) capabilities are available on the U1242A only; the J-type thermocouple is supported on the U1242A only.
Important: The U1240A Series comes with a certificate of calibration and test report at no extra cost.
Recommended pairing: the optional U1583A AC current clamp extends the current measurement range up to 400 A.
Important: For the 100 MΩ range, relative humidity is specified for < 60%; the temperature coefficient is 0.15 times the specified accuracy when above 50 MΩ.
Recommended pairing: add the U1185A/U1186A J-type and K-type thermocouple probes for temperature work.
