The B&K Precision 4050B Series is a family of dual channel function/arbitrary waveform generators designed to produce stable and precise sine, square, triangle, pulse, and arbitrary waveforms. The series comprises three models — the 4053B, 4054B, and 4055B — that share the same dual-channel architecture and arbitrary waveform engine while differing in maximum sine and square output frequency. Each instrument combines a 4.3-inch color LCD display, a numeric keypad, and a rotary control knob to provide an intuitive user interface for adjusting waveform parameters, modulation settings, and channel coupling.

The B&K Precision 4050B Series consists of three dual-channel function/arbitrary waveform generators — the 4053B, 4054B, and 4055B — that share an identical core architecture: 14-bit vertical resolution, 150 MSa/s DDS sampling rate, 16k point arbitrary waveform memory per channel, a 4.3-inch color LCD display, LAN and USBTMC connectivity, and the full modulation suite covering AM, DSB-AM, FM, PM, ASK, FSK, PSK, and PWM. The 196 built-in predefined arbitrary waveforms, the channel copy, track, and combine functions, the built-in frequency counter, and the storage capacity for over 1000 user-defined arbitrary waveforms are common across all three models.
The models in the series differ primarily in the maximum sine and square output frequency, which scales the upper end of the generator's useful range for higher-frequency stimulus applications. Triangle and ramp output (1 µHz to 500 kHz), pulse output (1 µHz to 12.5 MHz), noise bandwidth (greater than 60 MHz at -3 dB), and arbitrary waveform output (1 µHz to 6 MHz) are identical across the three models per the datasheet.

The principal differentiator across the 4050B Series is sine and square frequency range: the 4053B reaches 10 MHz, the 4054B reaches 30 MHz, and the 4055B reaches 60 MHz. This single specification determines the highest fundamental sinusoidal or square-wave frequency the instrument can produce, and it scales the usefulness of the generator for stimulus applications that involve clock signals, carrier generation, or component characterization in the upper frequency tiers.
