The MS710C/D/E/F is a family of high-performance microwave spectrum analyzers spanning 10 kHz to 23 GHz, with an optional measurement range up to 140 GHz when external mixers are used. The design pairs a simplified PLL synthesizer local oscillator with a two-channel digital memory and supports both easy manual operation and fully automatic operation over GPIB. Operator-focused design choices include a grouped key layout with key sizes scaled to functional importance, an operation guide display for complex SHIFT and MARKER sequences, and a preset memory that holds up to 10 sets of measurement conditions.
The series is applied to spectrum analysis of microwave devices and components; spurious emission and spectral distribution measurements of analog and digital communications transmitters; interference measurements for radio stations, satellite earth stations, and similar installations; spectrum analysis in basic research such as nuclear physics and radio-astronomy; and spurious measurements for home-use satellite broadcast receivers and related equipment.

The MS710C covers the widest frequency range in the series: it is the only model that adds the 10 kHz to 30 MHz band, and it combines high frequency accuracy with external-mixer support that extends measurement coverage up to 140 GHz.
The four models differ along three axes. The MS710C provides the 10 kHz to 30 MHz band, high frequency accuracy, and external-mixer extension to 140 GHz. The MS710D covers 100 kHz to 23 GHz with external-mixer extension to 140 GHz. The MS710E covers 100 kHz to 23 GHz with high frequency accuracy.

When using a 3-port external mixer, an additional amplifier (such as the MP11975A) is required for local signal amplification.
