The Agilent N6754A is a 60 V, 20 A, 300 W high-performance autoranging DC power module in the N6700 Modular Power System family. It is a plug-in module — not a standalone instrument — that installs into an Agilent N6700-series low-profile mainframe or an N6705 DC Power Analyzer mainframe and sources and measures DC voltage and current into a device under test. As a double-wide module it occupies two of the mainframe's four slots, and its autoranging output supplies the full 300 W across a range of voltage and current combinations rather than at a single fixed point.

The Agilent N6700 Low-Profile Modular Power System (MPS) is a 1U-high, multiple-output programmable DC power supply system that lets test system integrators optimize performance, power, and price to match their test needs. Built on an advanced switching power supply design that fits within 1U of rack space — with side-only venting so instruments can mount directly above or below — a single mainframe holds one to four modules, mixed and matched from over thirty DC power and electronic load modules to create a 1- to 4-channel system, investing in high-performance outputs where speed and accuracy are needed and basic outputs for simple, economical DC power.

The N6700 MPS is designed for automatic test equipment (ATE) systems in R&D, design validation, and manufacturing, where complex test equipment often requires multiple power sources while engineers work to reduce rack space and increase throughput. Power supplies and electronic loads of this kind are a fundamental component of test systems across aerospace and defense, consumer electronics, computers and peripherals, communications, semiconductor, and automotive electronics. Within the family, precision modules are suited to semiconductor and passive device testing where a precisely controlled output and highly accurate measurements are needed; the source/measure unit modules support battery drain analysis and functional test; and the high-speed measurement capability aids design validation of battery-powered digital devices where understanding current drain and power management is important.

When installed in the Agilent N6705 DC Power Analyzer, the same module gives R&D engineers insight into a device's power consumption without writing a single line of code. From the front panel an engineer can set up and view turn-on and turn-off sequences, measure and display voltage and current versus time to visualize power into the DUT, control DC bias supply or electronic-load ramp-up and ramp-down rates, generate DC bias transients and disturbances as arbitrary waveforms, and log data over seconds, minutes, hours, or days to capture current and power consumption or anomalies. A common task is inrush current measurement: triggering the integrated oscilloscope on the DC output's on/off key in single-shot mode captures the current into the DUT as the output turns on. While designed primarily as an R&D bench tool, the N6705 is fully programmable and LXI Class C certified, making it useful in ATE systems for visualizing results as tests execute, for device troubleshooting, and for test development; it mounts in a standard 19-inch rack as a 4U instrument.

ValueTronics stocks and holds its own inventory in a 20,000 square foot secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois, so the instruments we sell are on hand. Every used unit is inspected and functionally verified in-house before it ships, while new units ship factory-sealed exactly as received from the manufacturer — letting engineers buy a modular power system with confidence in both its availability and its condition.

## Brand Heritage

Agilent Technologies was established in 1999 as a spin-off of the test and measurement business of Hewlett-Packard. In 2014, that electronic measurement business was separated again into a newly formed company, Keysight Technologies, which carries this product line forward today. Equipment bearing the Agilent name reflects this period of the brand's corporate history.

## Compare Other Models in This Series

The Agilent N6700 Modular Power System family pairs a choice of mainframe with more than thirty interchangeable plug-in DC power and electronic load modules. Rather than a fixed instrument, it lets test system designers assemble a 1- to 4-channel DC power system optimized to meet specific test requirements, and as test needs change, different modules can be purchased and swapped into the mainframe so the system grows over time.

The family offers two mainframe styles built on the same module catalog. The low-profile N6700-series MPS mainframes are 1U-high frames for ATE use, available in 400 W, 600 W, and 1200 W total-output-power tiers — the N6700B (400 W), N6701A (600 W), and N6702A (1200 W) in the original generation, and the corresponding N6700C / N6701C / N6702C in the later generation. The N6705 DC Power Analyzer (N6705A / N6705B / N6705C) is the four-slot bench mainframe, providing 600 W of total available power and adding front-panel scope view, arbitrary waveform generation, and data logging. Sharing the same modules between the N6705 bench analyzer and the N6700 low-profile mainframes used in ATE allows test correlation and program sharing between R&D and manufacturing. The system can be purchased as a mainframe plus separately boxed modules, or as a build-to-order configuration shipped fully assembled with one to four installed modules — the N6710B / N6711A / N6712A (and later N6710C / N6711C / N6712C) low-profile systems, or the N6715B / N6715C analyzer systems.

The modules are grouped into series: basic DC power modules (the N6730, N6740, and N6770 ranges), high-performance autoranging modules (N6750 series), precision modules (N6760 series), source/measure units (N6780 series), application-specific modules (N6783A), and DC electronic loads (N6790 series). Each module installs into one slot, except the double-wide N6753A–N6756A, N6763A–N6766A, N6785A–N6786A, and N6792A, which each occupy two of the four slots. Basic modules cover 50 W, 100 W, and 300 W up to 150 V and up to 20 A; high-performance autoranging and precision modules add autoranging output, lower noise, and faster voltage changes, with available power up to 500 W up to 60 V and up to 50 A; the precision series further provides dual programming and measurement ranges with 16-bit programming and 18-bit measurement precision and simultaneous voltage and current digitizing. The source/measure units add multi-quadrant (two- and four-quadrant) operation rated up to 80 W and measurements down to nanoamperes, with a current range as low as 10 microamperes; the application-specific N6783A modules are rated 18 W to 24 W for battery charge/discharge and mobile-device manufacturing test; and the N6790 electronic loads offer 100 W and 200 W modules (up to 60 V and 40 A) with constant voltage, current, resistance, and power modes and programmable slew rates.

Across the mainframes, output sequencing can be synchronized between multiple low-profile units by wiring the rear-panel I/O ports together — supported on the N6700B, N6701A, and N6702A mainframes (not on the discontinued N6700A). The N6702A 1200 W mainframe additionally senses the available AC line power at turn-on and automatically scales back output to 600 W to avoid overloading a standard AC outlet, drawing its full 1200 W only when operated at the higher AC input.

> **Important:** The N6753A and N6754A 300 W high-performance autoranging modules are double-wide and each occupy two of the mainframe's four module slots; all other modules occupy one slot (the other double-wide modules — N6755A, N6756A, N6763A–N6766A, N6785A–N6786A, and N6792A — likewise occupy two slots). New modules N6753A and N6754A require mainframe firmware version C.02.00 or greater (available at www.agilent.com/find/N6700firmware).

> **Important:** A power module is not a standalone instrument; it requires an Agilent N6700-series (N6700B/N6701A/N6702A, or later N6700C/N6701C/N6702C) or N6705 DC Power Analyzer (N6705A/N6705B/N6705C) mainframe, ordered separately. A module's available capabilities depend not only on its own hardware but also on the hardware and firmware of the mainframe in which it is installed. Output terminal isolation: no output terminal may be more than ±240 VDC from any other terminal or chassis ground; when using the auxiliary measurement input terminals on the N6781A, no output or input terminal may be more than ±60 VDC from any other terminal and chassis ground. Output current is derated 1% per °C above 40 °C ambient temperature. Maximum series operation is 240 V; maximum rated parallel operation is 100 A per N6705. Identically rated outputs can be operated directly in parallel or series; auto-series/auto-parallel is not available.

> **Important:** Front-panel binding posts are rated for 20 A per post; for modules with outputs rated greater than 20 A (such as the N6753A or N6792A), high-current wires must be routed through the N6705's rear panel. The N6705B mainframe provides rear-panel access ports for this; for an N6705A mainframe, order N6705U-057 to replace the rear panel.

> **Important:** The mainframe's total available output power is 600 W on the N6705. If the sum of the installed module power exceeds the mainframe's available output power, the mainframe's power management feature allocates available power to the outputs where it is needed. Installing a 500 W module in the 400 W N6700B/N6700C mainframe may prevent that module from running at its full rated output power. When configuring a mainframe with fewer than four filled module slots, you must order a filler panel kit (N6708A); each kit contains three filler panels, and every empty module slot must be filled with a filler panel for proper operation. If you will be rack mounting the N6700, you must order the Rack Mount Kit (option 908 / N6709A; N6709C on the later generation); standard rack rails or slides are not compatible with the N6700 because of its 1U size and airflow requirements.

> **Important:** For model N6702A (and the N6712A system; later N6702C / N6712C), the maximum output power is limited to 600 W at 100 VAC; to achieve full output power of 1200 W you must use option 929 and operate at 200 VAC. An AC mains rated at 100–180 VAC cannot supply enough current to power the N6702A at full rated power; internal circuits then limit the power available to modules to 600 W maximum. Output sequencing synchronization across multiple mainframes is supported on the N6700B, N6701A, and N6702A mainframes; it is not supported on the discontinued N6700A mainframe. Option LGA (large-size FPGA) must be ordered on the N6751A and N6752A modules; it is required to support output sequencing between multiple mainframes. Option 760 (Output Disconnect/Polarity Reversal Relays) limits output current to 10 A maximum on Models N6742B and N6773A, and is not available on Models N6741B, N6751A, N6752A, N6761A, N6762A, and N6781A–N6786A. Option 2UA (200 µA measurement range) is available only on Models N6761A and N6762A.

> **Important:** If you add modules with model numbers N673xA, N673xB, N674xA, N674xB, N6753A, N6754A or N677xA to an N672xA, you will not be able to access the Agilent 662x command set for any installed modules; only SCPI commands will be accepted. N6783A modules cannot be used in series with other N6783A modules or any other N67xx module. When sinking power, Model N6784A can operate at the maximum rated output power for only a limited amount of time; the unit monitors internal power-device temperature and latches the output off if the safe limit is exceeded (annunciated by the OT status bit; a protect clear is required to resume operation). Published current/power ratings for Models N6751A and N6752A differ between the datasheet's specification table (page 16: N6751A 50 V/5 A/50 W, N6752A 50 V/10 A/100 W) and the ordering tables (pages 19 and 21: both listed as 50 V/1.5 A/50 W); confirm the installed module's rating from the instrument before relying on maximum output. This page summarizes headline specifications only — the complete performance specifications and supplemental characteristics for all power modules are in the Agilent/Keysight N6700 Modular Power System Family Specifications Guide, part number N6700-90001, and specifications for the N6780 Series 2-quadrant SMU modules are in the N6780 Series Source/Measure Units (SMUs) Data Sheet, literature number 5990-5829EN.

> Recommended pairing: the Agilent 14585A Control and Analysis Software controls up to four N6705 mainframes — up to 16 power or electronic load modules simultaneously — from a single PC, adding enhanced data visualization and management.
