The Agilent N6700 Low-Profile Modular Power System (MPS) is a 1U-high, multiple-output programmable DC power supply system that lets test system integrators optimize performance, power, and price to match their test needs. Built on an advanced switching power supply design that fits within 1U of rack space, a single mainframe holds one to four DC power modules, and the system lets you mix and match from over 30 different DC power modules to create a 1- to 4-channel DC power system tailored to specific test requirements. Test system engineers can invest in high-performance outputs where speed and accuracy are needed, or choose basic performance outputs for simple DC power requirements.

The N6700 MPS is designed for automatic test equipment (ATE) systems in R&D, design validation, and manufacturing. Power supplies of this kind are a fundamental component of test systems across aerospace and defense, consumer electronics, computers and peripherals, communications, semiconductor, and automotive electronics — industries where complex ATE systems often require multiple power sources and where reducing occupied rack space and increasing test throughput are constant pressures. Within the family, precision modules are suited to semiconductor and passive device testing where a precisely controlled output and highly accurate measurements are needed, while the source/measure unit modules support applications such as battery drain analysis and functional test; the high-speed measurement capability supports design validation of battery-powered digital devices where understanding current drain and DUT power management is important.

ValueTronics stocks and holds its own test-and-measurement inventory in a 20,000 sq ft secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois. Every pre-owned unit is inspected and functionally verified in-house before it ships, while new units ship factory-sealed exactly as received from the manufacturer. Keeping inventory on hand and verifying used units in our own facility means an order can be filled quickly and with confidence in the unit's condition.

## Brand Heritage

These instruments are branded Agilent Technologies. Hewlett-Packard's test and measurement business was spun off as Agilent Technologies in 1999, and Agilent's electronic measurement division was subsequently established as Keysight Technologies in 2014. Equipment originally branded Agilent is part of that continuous corporate lineage.

## Compare Other Models in This Series

The N6700 Modular Power System is a single 1U platform built around three mainframes — the 400 W N6700B, the 600 W N6701A, and the 1200 W N6702A — each able to hold one to four DC power modules. Rather than a fixed-configuration supply, it is a user-reconfigurable system: integrators select from over 30 modules to assemble exactly the channel count, voltage, current, and performance grade a test station calls for. The N6705 DC Power Analyzer mainframe extends the same module platform with front-panel scope view, arbitrary waveform generation, and data logging for the bench.

The modules themselves fall into distinct series — basic DC power (the N6730, N6740, and N6770 ranges), high-performance autoranging modules (N6750 series), precision modules (N6760 series), source/measure units (N6780 series), and application-specific modules (N6783A) — so a single mainframe can combine a high-power autoranging output with several economical basic outputs. Because the modules share a common mainframe, connectivity, and programming model, a system can be reconfigured or expanded over time. The system can be purchased as a mainframe plus separate modules for self-assembly, or as a build-to-order N6710B, N6711A, or N6712A system shipped fully assembled.

Each pre-owned model below is its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing. Select the mainframe or module that matches your configuration to see its pre-owned availability and details.

The mainframes differ chiefly in total available output power — 400 W (N6700B), 600 W (N6701A), and 1200 W (N6702A) — and only the N6702A offers the automatic AC-line power scaling that lets a 1200 W frame run from a standard outlet: it senses the available AC line power at turn-on and automatically scales output back to 600 W to avoid overloading a standard AC outlet, requiring 200 VAC operation (and option 929) to reach its full 1200 W. Cross-mainframe output sequencing can be synchronized by wiring the rear-panel I/O ports together — a capability supported on the N6700B, N6701A, and N6702A mainframes.

Among the modules, the differences are output rating (from 18 W up to 500 W), voltage and current range, ripple and noise, and programming and measurement accuracy, along with which series each belongs to. Module output voltages range from 5 V up to 150 V and power levels include 50 W, 100 W, 300 W, and 500 W depending on the module. Performance class also separates the series: basic modules cover programmable DC power with standard voltage and current measurement; high-performance autoranging and precision modules add autoranging output capability, and the precision series adds low voltage and current ranges with precision measurement. High-Speed Test Extensions, output disconnect relays (option 761), and output disconnect/polarity reversal relays (option 760) are available according to each module's row in the options table. Each module occupies one mainframe slot, except the double-wide N6753A–N6756A and N6763A–N6766A, which occupy two of the four slots. The comparison table below lays out these per-model ratings side by side so the right module can be matched to each output requirement.

> **Important:** Output terminal isolation: no output terminal may be more than ±240 VDC from any other terminal or chassis ground. When using the auxiliary measurement input terminals on the N6781A, no output or input terminal may be more than ±60 VDC from any other terminal and chassis ground.

> **Important:** Power modules require an Agilent N6700-series (N6700B/N6701A/N6702A) or N6705 DC Power Analyzer (N6705A/N6705B) mainframe to operate; a module is not a standalone instrument. The basic capabilities of a power module depend not only on its own hardware but also on the hardware and firmware of the mainframe in which it is installed.

> **Important:** Output current is derated 1% per degree C above 40 degrees C.

> **Important:** Installing a 500 W module in the N6700B 400 W mainframe may prevent that module from running at its full rated output power.

> **Important:** Each module occupies one module slot, except the double-wide N6753A–N6756A and N6763A–N6766A modules, which each occupy two of the four mainframe slots. The N6753A and N6754A 300 W high-performance autoranging modules each occupy 2 module slots.

> **Important:** Option 760 (Output Disconnect/Polarity Reversal Relays) limits the output current to 10 A maximum on Models N6742B and N6773A, and is not available on Models N6741B, N6751A, N6752A, N6761A, N6762A, and N6781A–N6784A.

> **Important:** Option 2UA (200 µA measurement range) is only available on Models N6761A and N6762A.

> **Important:** Option LGA (large-size FPGA) must be ordered on the N6751A and N6752A modules; it is required to support output sequencing between multiple mainframes.

> **Important:** New modules N6753A and N6754A require mainframe firmware version C.02.00 or greater (available at www.agilent.com/find/N6700firmware).

> **Important:** If you add modules with model numbers N673xA, N673xB, N674xA, N674xB, N6753A, N6754A or N677xA to an N672xA, you will not be able to access the Agilent 662x command set for any installed modules; only SCPI commands will be accepted.

> **Important:** N6783A modules cannot be used in series with other N6783A modules or any other N67xx module.

> **Important:** When sinking power, Model N6784A can operate at the maximum rated output power for only a limited amount of time; the unit monitors internal power device temperature and latches the output off if the safe limit is exceeded (annunciated by the OT status bit).

> **Important:** When configuring a mainframe with fewer than four filled module slots, you MUST order a filler panel kit (N6708A); each kit contains three filler panels, and every empty module slot must be filled with a filler panel for proper operation.

> **Important:** If you will be rack mounting the N6700, you MUST order the Rack Mount Kit (option 908 / N6709A); standard rack rails or slides are not compatible with the N6700 because of its 1U size and airflow requirements.

> **Important:** For model N6702A (and the N6712A system), the maximum output power is limited to 600 W at 100–120 VAC; to achieve full output power of 1200 W you must use option 929 and operate at 200–240 VAC. AC mains circuits rated at 100-180 VAC cannot supply enough current to power the N6702A mainframe at its full rated power; when connected to a 100-180 VAC mains, internal circuits limit the power available to modules to 600 W maximum.

> **Important:** Multi-mainframe output sequencing synchronization is supported on the N6700B, N6701A, and N6702A mainframes; it is not supported on the discontinued N6700A mainframe.

> **Important:** Performance specifications for the N6780 Series 2-quadrant SMU modules (N6781A, N6782A) are not included in this datasheet; see the N6780 Series Source/Measure Units (SMUs) for the N6700 Modular Power System Data Sheet, literature number 5990-5829EN.

> Recommended pairing: these DC power modules install in the Agilent N6700B through N6705B mainframes covered in this series, including the N6705 DC Power Analyzer mainframe for front-panel scope view, arbitrary waveform generation, and data logging.
