A solar array simulator is a DC power source engineered to reproduce the output behavior of a photovoltaic array on the test bench, so a power-conditioning system can be exercised against a realistic source rather than a flat supply. The Agilent E4350B Solar Array Simulator is a one-box instrument of this type: it is primarily a current source with very low output capacitance, capable of simulating the I-V curve of different arrays under different conditions such as temperature and age. The I-V curve is programmable over the IEEE-488.2 bus and is conveniently generated within the unit itself.

The instrument is built to provide fast and accurate simulation of any type of solar array, with multiple simulation modes, fast recovery time, and the ability to easily simulate changing environmental conditions. In Table Mode, current and voltage offsets can be applied to the selected table to simulate a change in the operating conditions of the array, making it straightforward to represent how an array responds as temperature or age shifts its characteristic curve.

ValueTronics stocks and holds its own test-and-measurement inventory in a 20,000 sq ft secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois. Every pre-owned unit is inspected and functionally verified in-house before it ships, while new units ship factory-sealed exactly as received, so the condition described on each listing reflects how the instrument will arrive.

## Brand Heritage

Hewlett-Packard's test and measurement business was spun off as Agilent Technologies in 1999. Agilent's electronic measurement division was subsequently established as Keysight Technologies in 2014.

## Compare Other Models in This Series

The Solar Array Simulator family is a set of one-box DC sources that simulate the output characteristics of a solar array. Each member is primarily a current source with very low output capacitance, generates and programs its I-V curve over the IEEE-488.2 bus, and provides the same three operating modes — Simulator, Table, and Fixed.

The line comprises the E4350B and E4351B, along with several special-order options (E4350B-J01 through J06). All members share a 480 W maximum output power rating and GPIB programmability; they differ chiefly in their voltage and current output ratings.

Each model below is its own dedicated product page with pre-owned-matched pricing. Select the model whose output ratings match your application, then choose the condition that fits your budget and documentation needs.

The models differ in their output ratings while sharing the 480 W maximum power envelope. Maximum open-circuit voltage ranges across the family from 47 V up to 130 V, and maximum short-circuit current ranges from 4 A up to 11 A, depending on the model and special-order option. Programming accuracy and ripple-and-noise figures are specified individually per model.

The comparison table that follows lists each model's maximum power, Voc maximum, Isc maximum, rated voltage and current ranges, programming accuracy, and ripple-and-noise figures so the correct output tier can be matched to the array being simulated.

> **Important:** Capacitive load: in fixed mode the maximum load capacitance without causing instability is 2000 µF; in simulator and table modes the unit is unconditionally stable at all capacitive loads.

> **Important:** Support rails are required when ordering the Opt 908 Rackmount Kit or the Opt 909 Rackmount Kit with Handles.

> **Important:** Connection accessories — the 7-pin Analog Plug (1252-3698), 4-pin Digital Plug (1252-1488) and Serial Link Cable (5080-2148) — are listed under Accessories and are ordered separately; they are not stated as included in the standard delivery.

> **Important:** On the E4350B-J03 special-order configuration the datasheet prints a rated current of '0.10 A' for I rated while listing a short-circuit current (Isc Max.) of 10 A; the printed value has been retained but should be verified with the manufacturer.
