The Anritsu MS9740A is a bench-top optical spectrum analyzer covering 600 nm to 1750 nm, designed for evaluation of active optical devices including LD modules, DFB-LDs, FP-LDs, LEDs, optical amplifiers, WDM signals, and optical bandpass filters. The instrument combines high-speed waveform sweeping with eight integrated analysis menus to support both production-line throughput and engineering characterization workflows.

Anritsu positions the MS9740A for evaluation of active optical devices such as SFP, XFP, and SFP+ transceiver modules, as well as VCSEL and DFB optical sources. The datasheet also identifies applications in WDM signal evaluation at 100 GHz and 50 GHz channel spacing, EDFA gain and noise figure characterization, PMD measurement of optical fiber, and analysis of optical bandpass filters including WSS and WDM filter devices. Combined with a Bit Error Rate Tester, the analyzer supports spectrum analysis of optical transceiver outputs and WDM signals.

**Important:** Wavelength accuracy of ±20 pm across 1520 nm to 1620 nm requires calibration using the MS9740A-002 Light Source for Wavelength Calibration option. Without this option, accuracy is specified at ±200 pm across 1520 nm to 1570 nm and ±300 pm across 1570 nm to 1750 nm (after Wl Cal Ext using an external light source).**Important:** When ordering the mainframe, one optical connector option (MS9740A-037 FC, MS9740A-038 ST, MS9740A-039 DIN 47256, or MS9740A-040 SC) must be specified.**Important:** The MS9740A-009 Multimode Fiber Interface is a factory option only; retrofit is not supported. When MS9740A-009 is specified, specifications are based on the MS9740A-009 (some features differ from the standard MS9740A).**Important:** Executing wavelength calibration with the MS9740A-002 Light Source for Wavelength Calibration option secures ±20 pm (1520 nm to 1620 nm, without MS9740A-009) accuracy. The MS9740A supports wavelength calibration with an external light source such as a DFB-LD, but this option assures higher accuracy.**Important:** When controlling the MS9740A remotely using the Ethernet port, a VISA driver must be installed in the PC controller. The licensed NI-VISA driver is provided free-of-charge for use when performing remote control of an MS9740A in which the MS9740A-001 GPIB option has been installed.**Important:** MS9740A-002 Light Source for Wavelength Calibration complies with optical safety standards in Class 1 of IEC 60825-1:2007.Usage tip: pair the MS9740A with the Anritsu MP2100B BERTWave for combined optical spectrum analysis and bit error rate testing of XFP and SFP+ transceiver outputs, as illustrated in the datasheet's optical transceiver measurement example.
