The Agilent 33220A is a 20 MHz function and arbitrary waveform generator that uses direct digital synthesis to produce sine and square waveforms to 20 MHz, linear ramps to 200 kHz, and variable-edge-time pulses to 5 MHz. The instrument also generates triangle, noise, and DC waveforms, along with five built-in arbitrary shapes — exponential rise, exponential fall, negative ramp, Sin(x)/x, and cardiac — and supports user-defined arbitrary waveforms up to 64K points at 14-bit resolution and a 50 MSa/s sample rate.

Function/arbitrary waveform generators in this class serve as the stimulus source in stimulus-response test setups across electronics design, education, production test, and general bench work. The 33220A's documented application set includes complex custom waveform generation through the IntuiLink Arbitrary Waveform software, which allows waveforms to be created, edited, and downloaded from a PC, or captured from an oscilloscope using IntuiLink for Oscilloscope and replayed through the generator. Up to four user-defined waveforms can be stored in non-volatile memory for recall without re-downloading.

## Brand Heritage

The 33220A was originally manufactured under the Agilent Technologies brand. Agilent's electronic test and measurement business was spun off as Keysight Technologies in 2014, with Keysight continuing as the current corporate successor for instruments originating from this product line.

**Important:** External frequency reference input (Option 001) lock range is 10 MHz ±500 Hz with input level from 100 mVpp to 5 Vpp.**Important:** Sine and square waveforms above 6 MHz are allowed only with an 'infinite' burst count.**Important:** FSK uses the trigger input (1 MHz maximum).**Important:** For amplitude/offset specs: add 1/10th of output amplitude and offset spec per °C for operation outside the range of 18°C to 28°C.**Important:** For internal frequency reference accuracy: add 1 ppm/°C average for operation outside the range of 18°C to 28°C.Recommended pairing: the 33220A can be synchronized to an external 10 MHz clock, to another 33220A, or to an Agilent 33250A using the external frequency reference (Option 001), with phase adjustment from the front panel or via a computer interface.
